Log Home Restoration Service

One of the most understated aspects of owning a log home is the issue of log care and maintenance. Proper design of a log home can go a long way to reduce the amount of care needed but it cannot be eliminated. Whether it’s a vintage log cabin that’s been in your family for years or a newly built home it is an investment that is worth protecting.

There are many products on the market which claim to be suitable for a log home but only a few carry a complete line of products that have been proven and tested for as long a period as your home needs. Sashco and Permachink have specialized in providing log stains, caulking, cleaners and preservatives for years worldwide. Their product line covers a wide range of green applications and we consult with them on every job to make the best choice for you and your home.

Critical to the success of any log home restoration project is the proper preparation of the logs prior to product application. The amount of preparation varies with the degree of deferred maintenance on the home. Under good care the logs may only require an eco-friendly cleaner and pressure washing. Under less care they may require cob or media blasting to remove the finish down to the wood. In extreme conditions there may be log replacement needed which in most cases only requires that we replace the outer half of the log with a cedar or treated log. All repairs of this type are warranted for as long as you own the home.

Note: If you are planning to build a new log home be sure to check into the issue of mill glaze and how it prohibits certain finishes from forming a good bond with the logs. Our media blasting service is the answer to this problem so send us your plans for a free quote.
